Belgian all-time leading goalscorer Lukaku has been in the treatment room for weeks and his presence on the Chelsea training pitch would have delighted their fans ahead of a difficult run of games in the next two weeks.

Lukaku has been missing since he picked up an ankle injury during the first half of the Champions League clash between Chelsea and Swedish champions Malmo FF in October. The injuries to the attacking duo of Timo Werner and the abovementioned Lukaku during the Malmo game overshadowed an emphatic 4-0 win for the Blues with goals from Jorginho (2), Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz.

Lukaku has missed a lot of football in recent weeks including the World Cup 2022 qualifiers for his country this month. The ex-Everton and Inter Milan striker has missed the last five Chelsea matches in all competitions including the last three league outings. He was not called to the Belgium squad for the games again against Estonia and Wales by manager Roberto Martinez due to his injury.

Chelsea are guests of Leicester City when Premier League football resumes on Saturday and Lukaku is expected to be a part of the Blues squad for the game with his return to training. Chelsea are in Premier League action ahead of their fellow title rivals for the upcoming weekend and they can put pressure on them with a win at the expense of an consistently inconsistent Leicester City this season. Thomas Tuchel and his wards can stretch their lead at the Premier League summit to six points with a win over Leicester City.

After the Leicester game away from home, Chelsea will take on Italian giants Juventus at home in the Champions League before an away game against Manchester United in the Premier League.
