Redknapp Questions Remy’s Decision

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has questioned Loic Remy’s decision to join Chelsea rather than other teams interested in his services. Chelsea recently signed the QPR forward for around £ 9 million after activating his release clause. The Frenchman underwent a medical with Liverpool earlier in the season before failing it. However, he has been on the radar of clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal. Redknapp says that Remy may regret this decision to choose Chelsea since he may not feature much for Jose Mourinho’s team.

Diego Costa is the number-one striker at Chelsea and he has made a fantastic start to life in the Premier League. After just three matches, Costa is already leading the goalscoring charts with four goals to his name. Mourinho has previously not shied away from using his key players for more than 50 matches in a season. Many reckon that Remy will be the second choice at Chelsea since Didier Drogba, who returned to the club on a free transfer, may not get much game time at 36 years of age. The presence of a top-class backup for Costa is very important for Chelsea considering that they will have at least two matches every week.

Redknapp, though, says that Costa is unlikely to give up his first-team place for Remy. “Diego Costa is a game changer and people like that are what you pay the big money for. They lost David Luiz and brought in him and Cesc Fabregas for only £10million difference – and what piece of business that is. Loic Remy is a player I’ve seen closely at QPR and I just think ‘why would you go to Chelsea at the moment? Where are you going to play?’ He’s not. If Diego Costa is fit, this guy plays. He is the difference,” said Redknapp.
